How the hidden picture is hidden
A Magic Eye picture is one strip of pattern repeated across the page. Let your eyes settle at the wrong distance and each eye lands on a different copy of the strip, so your brain pairs them up as though it were looking at one object further away. The hidden shape is made by changing how far apart those copies sit: squeeze the repeat a little closer together and that part of the picture floats forward.
That's the whole trick, and it means nothing is ever drawn. There's no faint outline to sharpen and no channel to pull apart. The shape exists only as a spacing. This tool measures the spacing at every point instead of crossing your eyes, and draws what it finds: near in white, far in black.
If nothing appears
- Check the spacing was found. If it reads no repeat found, the picture is probably not a stereogram at all, and the other image tools are the place to look.
- Try the difference view. It has no settings to get wrong, so on a clean random-dot picture it is the more reliable of the two.
- Swap near and far. A shape can be perfectly clear and still unreadable if it is inside out.
- Crop off any border. A frame, a caption or a watermark is not part of the repeat and drags the measurement off.
